So, I met with my supervisor yesterday and things didn't go all that badly. At the end of fall term he'd given me two possible projects, call them A and B. I thought A looked more interesting, so I tried to work on it in January and got nowhere. I then looked at B and couldn't quite understand what he meant by it. So, the sensible thing at that point would have been to, you know, email him, or something, but I decided to do - nothing. Anyways, we talked over things yesterday, and it turns out he thought about A a bit over the winter and decided it was quite hard. So we talked about B, and now I understand a bit better what it's all about. It actually looks pretty doable, so hopefully I should be able to finish it by the end of the summer.

It's hardly groundbreaking stuff, but I'm realizing that the master's thesis is more about getting some result rather than a big new contribution - that's what the PhD is for. I think I'm going to try and spend my first year of PhD finding a really nice big project to work on; it could be in any one of a number of fields.

On another note, I just have to complain about NS weather again. Yesterday afternoon it was 25 degrees. I was wearing shorts and a t-shirt. Today, it is snowing. I just don't understand.
