Saw Lost in Translation tonight. I liked it quite a lot. A comment someone made was very true: it was very moving, but one wasn't quite sure why or how it was moving. I think good art is like that: you get affected, but you're not sure exactly how or why. I think it would be an interesting movie to study more deeply, to understand how it can have such an effect.

Just read one of the press blurbs about the movie in the above link: "[the characters] ultimately discover a new belief in life's possibilities". Man that sounds stupid. I don't really think that's what it's about either. Press blurbs are usually stupid, I suppose: they're trying to sell things to people who aren't really sure what they want.
