The next morning I head off to a nearly supermarket/drug store combo. On the way I pass Prof what's-his-name who taught at Waterloo but is more permanently at Dal. C would know 'im. I buy OJ and cinammon rolls for my three mornings here, and get all neccesary toiletry items. After and a shower and breakfast, it's off to (hopefully) find an apt. First, some quick impressions of Halifax. Dal is very well integrated into the city - the entire university blends in with the city rather than sticking out. Halifax looks slightly more run-down that most in places in Ontario. It has a nice older feeling to it though, and has numerous trees on every street.
Bayers park apts were nice, and quite similar to my current apt. Sweetly close to a big grocery store. A 35-40 mni. walk to Dal, which is alright. Made the loooong walk to the other end of Halifax to see Ogilvie on the Park, another apt. Somehow, I still managed to miss the downtown area. Ogilvie is in a beautiful area of Halifax - quiet, pretty, and right by the water. Too bad the apts feel cramped, and are $120/month more expensive. Oh well. I come back to Dal, and decide to go /w Bayers Park II - only bad thing is the length of the walk, which I can handle. I decide to go to (where else) KOD (King of Donair) for lunch. Now, being hungry, and knowing I can eat a lot, choose the large Donair. Ha. The Donair machine is neat - a big hunk of meat rotating on a pole. But once I see how much meat the guy was shaving off for my Donair, I knew I was in trouble. The pita size was reasonable (and it was an excellent, fluffy pita), but there was enough meat stuffed in it (and around it, and beside it) for like four pitas. There was also lots of sauce (sweet, creamy) and tomato and onion bits. The meat was v. tender and had a nice spice to it. I have no idea what animal it was, by the way :) I got through about 3/4 of it, then felt a bit sick. Pretty good, but waaaaay too much of it. I also tried the comic book store across the street. It was mostly fantasy stuff - I would have bought the IVth Sandman, but they were out of III and IV. I trekked back to Bayers Park and signed the application. Amusingly, the guy I saw from Bayers Park I interrupted me, asking if I wanted to sign at his place, but no, I told him, I was signing at Bayers Park II (not telling him I liked II's super better). This done, I trudged back to Howe Hall, buying a clock on the way. Getting back to my room at about 4:30, I was incredibly tired. Looking at my map, I realized I had walked 15 km since morning. I didn't move until 6.
