No one in the known world seems to care about it as I do. I admit - I have an obsession with finding the optimal walking routes between points. It's so sad. I decide I'm going to walk from point A to point B, and along the walk I spend far too much thought on deciding which route I should be taking, factoring in: weather conditions, road traffic, stop-light length, scenery, sidewalk conditions, etc, etc...

Most important of all is the walk from home to work/school. Important because if you're going to be doing it everyday, it's good to shave a few precious seconds off your walk, or see a nice site everday...ok,i it really isn't that important, but whatever, I can't stop myself. Yesterday I found I could add a park to my walk from home to school with minimal extra effort. Today I found that by taking a side-street, I could avoid much busy, loud street traffic. What will I find tomorrow???

First day of classes today. I arrive at school and wonder to myself, where are all the busy groupings of students one usually sees? It wasn't 'till I went to my first class that I found such a hub: it seems that like Waterloo, Dalhousie has underground routes between buildings, but unlike Waterloo, people actually frequent them. There are even classrooms in some of the hallways! Weird.

Here's an interesting problem from class today: Take a number. If it's even, divide by two. If it's odd, multiply by 3 and add 1. Repeat. Eventually you should get to 1. Can you prove this happens with any number? Remarkably enough, it's an open problem.
