I Served Serial Joe a Slushie

This afternoon myself and another grad student started talking with our supervisor about background thesis stuff. Specifically, he did a mini-lecture on monads for us. Anyways, near the end, he throws off this little gem (I'm paraphrasing): "So, you know how rings have five operations (+, x, -, 1, 0) and 9 or 10 equations (distributivity, associativity, etc.). With this construction we can reduce it to 1 operation and 2 equations". How cool is that?
