Well, I'm angrier now. Says one analyst about the election: Guantanamo may have gained Bush votes, not cost him votes (it's about half way down). Basically, the writer says that since so many voters are worried about terrorism, the idea of locking supposed terrorists up without trial is a highly appealing one.
That is, the American people support an action that violates Articles 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and possibly 5 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. These rights were not chosen arbitrarily: they were chosen because the people that made the bill knew that one cannot have a just society without fair and proper trial for any human being. You cannot simply lock people up without charging them, and without allowing them to have a trial. I simply cannot understand how people can advocate or support an action that violates this must fundamental of human rights.
And people wonder why I don't want to visit, let alone live in the States.
