WoW: A Host of Minor Annoyances

The most annoying thing is the map. It's virtually useless. The mini-map has virtually no detail on it, and only has icons for towns. At the maximum zoomed out level, it's too small. The world map is very un-intuitive. If you're in a party, there are icons for your party members - but no way to tell if they are above or below you (in terms of height). The solution? Use a GTA-style map. Lots of icons, and up or down triangles to indicate change in elevation.

The beginning of the game was kind of disappointing. After a really cool opening cinematic, you get into the game, talk to the friendly nearby guy, who asks you to....kill a bunch of small critters. Yech. This was especially disappointing for a night elf, who are supposed to respect nature, or something. How about an interesting, multi-part quest to start off?

The first time you die is very confusing. The first you thing you see is a countdown. A bit more explanation of the spirit/death thing would be nice.

There hasn't been much explanation in-game about the professions. A quest to try a bit of each might be nice.

The dungeons I've been to are really badly designed - they're basically featureless holes. More landmarks would help.

Overall, it's certainly an interesting experience, especially when I've gotten in a party with people - but all these minorly annoying things bring down the experience. Right now, I can't see myself buying it.
