I haven't written much lately, have been feeling very uninspired. Manchester United failing to win again also lessens my zeal. As well, though I have been sleeping many hours lately, I don't seem to be sleeping well, as I seem to be tired a fair amount of the time. At least I'm making some sort of progress on my thesis.

Zealous readers of this blog (all two of you) may recall one of my very first posts: an earnest rant about why Metal Gear Solid 2 sucks. This is why it may seem very odd that I decided to purchase MGS3 today. Recently, however, I have had to reconsider my opinion of MGS2, mostly because of this article. If you don't like clicking links, basically the author makes a case that the completely illogicity (is that a word?) of MGS2 is by design and is written in such a ridiculous fashion for a specific purpose. Reading the review and thinking about the game again made me realize that he may be right. Around the same time I also read very interesting sort-of-review of MGS3 (for those who do like clicking links, it's the first article in the first issue of this free internet magazine) which compelled me to purchase it, not because the author recommended it per se, but instead because the author kept saying what an "experience" it was.

I've played a few hours so far, and I'm not sure yet what to make of it, but I'm keeping an open mind about it all. I think there's a lesson here. If one is really vehemently opposed to something, the reason may be nothing more than one simply doesn't understand it. Works that are truly bad we just never really think about again. But if one is reacting so strongly to a piece (and this applies to a piece in any medium) that one starts writing rants about it, then there may be more to it than first meets the eye.
