Now here's something interesting: on their list of the 100 best novels since 1923 (why that date I don't know, possibly to exclude James Joyce??), one of the novels is Watchmen! Why is this interesting you ask? Well, it's not a novel per se, but a graphic novel. I wonder if this is one of the first times graphic novels have been considered in the same realm as novels. Not that I think they should, mind you, as I believe novels and graphic novels are as seperate genres as, say, painting and movies. But interesting none the less.
Not a bad thing to check out, Watchmen is, quite complex and layered, but not neccesarily the best representative of the graphic novel genre. Check out Jimmy Corrigan if you like novels but haven't read many interesting graphic novels.
Update: I just noticed the list includes Neuromancer. That throws the whole thing's credibility out the window....

It also has the Great Gatsby. Gah.
Actually, I like the Great Gatsby :)
I'm not sure we can be friends anymore.
I find it hilarious that two math majors can have a major rift in their friendship caused by a book. Hurrah for literature!
(although I also like the Great Gatsby, Colin, so it may just be a Cruttwell anomaly. And you really can't blame us for our genetic defaults)
