From an article in our local indepedent weekly:
Newmarket has "characterless urban sprawn as far as the eye can see, the place is as magical as an econo-pack of socks on Christmas morning".

yeah, Newmarket was pretty boring. But is it bad that I've always kind of liked getting socks for Christmas? (they may be boring and un-cultured, but they are very convenient and very useful).
I do hope Mum and Dad move somewhere interesting when they retire, though...
