(Reverse) Culture Shock

When I walked into our apartment after two weeks in Japan, my first thought was "This can't be our apartment, did we walk into someone else's?" I soon convinced myself it was our place, but then I couldn't figure out why I had been initially confused.

I'm pretty sure, now that I think about it, it was due to one thing: carpets. They don't exist in Japan. Everywhere we went had either wood or tatami-mat floors. When I walked in, my brain couldn't process this weird mushy stuff everywhere. (Of course, this could also have to do with only having slept half an hour out of the previous 30). However, I'm still not quite used to carpets, believe it or not.

The other thing I'm not used to here is the weather. Apparently there was a snowstorm the night before Easter; now were having some other kind of wind/rain/hail storm. Not so nice, especially when compared to the lovely cherry blossoms we saw everywhere in Japan.
Comments:
heehee! you stole my picture! And as for carpets, while Japanese houses don't tend to have them, often businesses do (such as my workplace). You're right though -- one thing I hadn't really realized was the amount of straw/wood flooring in this country.

I hope you've had a chance to catch up on your sleep!
